about

1914 [Part 1-4] - The 1900s started, somehow, with the year 1914 when the 1800s definitely ended with the start of WW1, which undoubtedly changed everything for good. This is mainly an instrumental track in four parts trying to illustrate the atmosphere of the time. Beginning with the “knocks of fate” on New Year’s Day, it takes us through the “happy days” of the first half of the year and the “adventure of war” of the second half, to the notorious but silenced “Christmas Eve” at the West front trenches.

lyrics

"1914" [Part 1-4]

music and lyrics (spoken): Armand Gutheim

A new year is awaiting for us outside the door
with new times much happier than ever before

Yet another year, with the excuse for a new better score
and the hope to bring the drifting ship back ashore

But in our New Year’s resolution, hides also a true disaster
where peace and understanding are blown up by an evil blaster

A simple struggle for power where nobody can be the master
while fate is only knocking harder and faster

Instrumental

Also: “Silent night” (in German, English and French)
